My Story
I was born and raised in California, but my first language was not English. Growing up in a multicultural environment, I grew to appreciate the beauty of language. Sadly, when I was in high school I felt like all my classmates were smarter than me because they knew words I had never even heard.
Fast forward to college at UC Santa Cruz when I finally started to find my voice. Thanks to my professors, I learned not only how to write well, but to enjoy the writing process. After graduation, I moved to the Czech Republic where I spent three years teaching English conversation. It was then that I realized my passion for teaching English.
I moved back to California and I have been teaching middle and high school English Language Arts, Creative Writing, and English Language Development in public schools across the San Francisco Bay Area. The relationships I built with my students were the best part of being a teacher. That's why I created Liberation English: so I can spend more time creating individual connections with my students.
Now I live in the San Francisco Bay Area with my partner, Toney, and our rescue dog, Jojo. My hobbies include international folk dancing, playing acoustic guitar, knitting, hiking in the redwoods, and doing my nails. I am a beginning speaker of Spanish, Czech, and modern Hebrew.
I am proudly non-binary, transgender, and queer.
My pronouns are they/them/theirs.
